Give Your Children An Alternative Gifts for Kids

Filed under: Children — BillNBPI @ 12:00 am

For kids, receiving a present is a momentous affair regardless of the time of the year. Whether its Christmas or birthday, gifts are always treasured. For that upcoming party which will mark a significant event in your childs life, try some of these alternative gift ideas from Chris Robertson (Live Habitat Gifts) and Tony Mikael (ATV for kids).

Live Habitat Gifts

Kids can learn a lot about the important things in life by observing animals in live habitats. One gift product that has been very popular for years is the ant farm. Ant farms give children a glimpse into how the ant society really works underground.

Kids can watch as the ants create their tunnels, gather and store their food, protect the queen ant, and work together to keep the ant family alive and well. Though they are very small, ants are often called a small army and ants are frequently used in describing good work ethic. As your child observes his ant farm, he will learn values about work and play while enjoying his tiny new found friends!

Other popular live habitats include frog habitats, Deep Sea Jellyfish, Shark Reef Aquarium or other fish aquariums, Bug Explorer, and Hermit Crab Cove. With each live habitat, there are plenty of lessons to be learned. Children learn by experience and observance. The live habitats enable them to learn safely and in a fun way from their own home.

Practicality in buying ATV gifts for kids

Buying a kid who is an ATV enthusiast makes perfect sense because you are actually sticking to something safe. Let us look at it this way….a kids ATV gift is practical because they will be using it for practical purposes and it can be used over a long period of time. Furthermore, it is harder to outgrow a kids ATV gift than to outgrow a pair of Nikes! And trust me, kids outgrow or get bored with gifts too easily. The last time I got a gift for my friends child, she outgrew them within a few weeks!

Purchasing kids ATV gifts do not break your budget

And of course, when looking for kids gifts, the foremost consideration is always the cost. When you purchase a kids ATV gift, make sure it is affordable and will fit into your budget. There really is not a point in spending too much on the gift in an effort to buy their affection. Kids do not work that way - expensive gifts are reserved, usually, for business people! Let us be honest with that, huh? You get a business associate or potential client something expensive and they might respond positively by giving you their next big project - with kids, it just does not work that way so, do not waste your time and money.

Safety is number one for the kids

I do not know about you but whenever I buy ATV gifts for kids, the first thing that comes to mind is always safety. Consider purchasing gifts from well-known brands because the more established they are, the more research they would have done, the more experience they would have had. Experience counts for lot as far as ATV gifts are concerned.

Consider buying a kid an ATV helmet if you run out of ideas. A kids ATV helmet can have many different uses. They can use the ATV helmet for bike riding or when they are going for a short ride to the store with their dad on a motorbike. It is not restricted to just ATV riding.

Make sure the ATV gift is suitable for their age

Although it has become relatively easy to find ATV gifts for kids online, one thing is for sure. You will have to make sure the gift that you are getting is suitable for the kids age. If the kid is larger than others his or her age, buy one size larger. In fact, to be on the safe side, I buy everything one size larger for apparels. The only kind of kids ATV gift that I cannot buy one size larger is the ATV helmets. In terms of helmets, I always get the help of their parents.

Water Safety For Children Made Easy

Almost all children love to play in water. It can be bathwater, pool water, or even the water hose, but they just seem to love it. It usually starts when they are only infants when you place them in the bathtub for the first time. Once they learn to sit on their own, the bathtub becomes a whole new play land. When they are old enough for their first wading pool in the summertime, it gets even better. Once they learn to swim in the big pool, it is a brand new excitement all over again.

When kids play in water, what ever the source or depth, they can have a tendency to be a little rambunctious while they are playing. After all, half the fun is the jumping and splashing. As parents we should realize from the beginning that they need supervision at all times from the first bathtub days all the way to the big swimming pool. Accidents can always happen when you least expect them and they usually do and even when you are supervising.

When babies are in the bathtub, it is essential that you make sure you have everything that you will need before you put them in. This way you will not be tempted to leave them to get something even if it is only for a second while you reach behind you for a towel. Make sure you have the towel and any bathing accessories they need while they are in the tub. It might also be good to keep a phone in the room as well in case there is an accident you can get help immediately. It might sound a little over the top, but it really is not.

Small children should be accompanied when they are outside especially if they are playing in a pool. Even small pools can pose a drowning danger for little ones. Water is not the only thing to be concerned about while children play outside. Sun block needs to always be used to protect their delicate skin. Permanent skin damage can happen easily with young children and it should be avoided at all costs.

When children move up to big swimming pools, supervision is just as important. They can sometimes be careless while they are playing and many accidents can happen outside the pool too. Running on a slippery surface around the edge of the pool has been the cause of many broken bones and head injuries. Hitting the head and falling into the pool has caused a lot of drowning. If your child is not a great swimmer and they could venture over their head, have them keep on a arm floaters or even a life jacket as a precaution even if you are in attendance. It is always better to use too much precaution instead of not enough.

Getting Your Kid to Work As an Actor

Filed under: Children — retailrev @ 12:00 am

Getting your kid to work as an actor can be a really tough task. The parents should ensure that they are not forcing their child into it & at the same time ensure that everything is handled in a professional manner. Assuming your child is motivated and really wants to act, get him into an acting class as soon as possible.

First, you want to make sure you are doing this for all the right reasons, mainly: Your child actually wants to be an actor. I see a ton of parents “pimping” their kids, and these children have no real interest in acting. This is no way to do anything, let alone deal with the harsh realities of trying to make it as an actor.

Assuming your child is motivated and really wants to act, get him into an acting class as soon as possible. Do research and find a class that suits your child. Look for classes that specialize in teaching kids and that have kids that are working all the time. I would shy away from a class that tries to teach “the Method.” It’s a bit too much for a child, in my opinion. Okay, maybe too much for most adults as well.

Once your kid has his chops and has a nice monologue prepared, get him some head shots. He will need two: one for commercial and one for theatrical. (Be prepared to get new head shots at least once per year, since kids grow and change quickly.) You will need to hunt for a photographer who works with kids and does not charge much more than $325 for the two looks. Sure you can spend more or even less but this is about the average for a quality shoot. Once the head shots are done, and your child has a good monologue prepared, start the process of finding an agent.

This is not that hard, most agents want to work with kids and most agencies have a childrens department. It’s best to sign with an agent that both you and your child LOVE! There are a ton of childrens agents out there, so do not be afraid to say no thank you if an agent wants to work with your sign your child and it doesn’t feel right.

You need to be in touch with your childs agent on a regular basis, and make sure he is working for you. That is, getting your child out on auditions. Two auditions per week is a good rule of thumb. If it is once per week for a spell that is also fine. Sometimes it will be more, sometimes less. The point is that the agent is consistently sending your child out.

I have found much success in making the audition, the call back, and the booking a game for my daughter. For example, if she gets a call back, she gets some cash. If she books the gig, she gets a cool surprise or cash, in addition to her payment for the job. This way she is 100% involved and really self-motivated to do well, which I have found to be the most important thing!

To recap:

1. Make sure your kid wants to be an actor.

2. Get him or her into a kids acting class.

3. Get him or her to learn a good monologue.

4. Find a photographer and get professional head shots done.

5. Find a great agent.

6. Make a game out of the audition process.

7. Always involve your child, help him to become self-motivated.

8. Keep in touch with your agent, at least once per week.

9. Make sure to get new head shots at least once per year.

10. HAVE FUN!

What to Look for when Selecting a Child Care Provider

Filed under: Children — eddiehudd @ 12:00 am

Once you have found a day care center for your child, you will want to know some details about your child care provider that will help you to feel more comfortable leaving your child in a new environment. Here are some of the personality traits that you should keep in mind once you have made the decision to educate your child outside of the home.

Certification

Just as colleges and universities have to be accredited, the child care provider that you choose should be certified to teach all of the age groups of children that attend the facility. Childcare is more than just feeding kids and putting them down for a nap, so you will need to make sure that the childcare provider you have selected has instructors that are certified to teach kids the fundamentals of education depending on their age group. This way, you can be sure that your child is developing intellectually as well as being on the same track as other children in their age group. Of course, you will have to work with your children on learning their colors, numbers and shapes at home as well, but sending your children to a certified school will definitely help.

Safety

Not only should you make sure that their are no hazardous items within the reach of your little ones, but the professional in the child care provider center should be able to provide CPR to your kids should anything happen. There should also be a first aid kit on the premises so that the day care professionals can fix up any cuts and scrapes your children may get while playing. There are often pools and playgrounds at some day care centers, and you need to make sure that you can leave your children in a place where they will be taken care of, no matter what.

Healthy Social Environment

Ask your childcare provider if you can spend a day observing the different classes and activities that may be provided for your youngster. Make sure that you are in a place where your child cannot see you, and talk with the director about observing your childs teacher so that you can see how they react with other children. Additionally, you will be able to see how well your little one is learning different concepts that are instrumental to their education. You will also be able to see how well your child is making friends, or whether or not your toddler is comfortable at certain parts of the day when different educational concepts are being explored.

When it comes to the care of children, childcare providers must be aware of the key elements parents consider when selecting a day care in their community. It is both parties responsibility to ensure that the children receive the best care possible. The parents job is to know who is caring for their children and always remain diligent about knowing what is going on at the center they choose.

Educational Toys Help Child’s Learning

Filed under: Children — anutt @ 12:00 am

We live in a day and age where children are watching TV and playing video games all of the time. Sure, it may seem as if video games and television stimulate a child’s brain, but many times kids are sitting there like zombies. Unless the television show is an educational show that doesn’t bore the child or the video game is something that involves a certain degree of strategy, they’re not getting too much out of these two things. Most of all, they are not exactly using their imaginations in a world that requires its occupants to be imaginative in order to survive personally and occupationally.

As convenient as television and video games are at keeping the kids busy and behaved, it is time for parents to rebel. The revolt begins as the child develops by using such things as educational toys. Adults use puzzles, brain teasers, and other things that require thought to keep their minds sharp. It has been shown that adults who stay on top of their game with activities that make them think are taking an active measure toward preventing Alzheimer’s. By incorporating such things into a child’s life and keeping those activities as part of their life, a parent is taking an active role in ensuring that their child’s mind stays sharp. It is also important to emphasize to that child how important such activities are as an adult so that they can take a preventive measure toward diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Educational toys

Educational toys come in many different types and are available for children as soon as they learn how to grab things. They can be something as simple as a puppet or matching shapes. The child is forced to think and the colorful pieces that come with these toys make the activity interesting. What makes these activities even more interesting is when the parent is involved and praising the child when the child is successful.

Starting these activities early means that the child is going to get a developmental head start and will be using strategy easily by the time he or she begins kindergarten. Your child will have the mental maturity needed to make it through the world if you start stimulating their brains early and making it fun to learn. When kids don’t have fun learning is when they have learning difficulties throughout their entire lives. This isn’t always the case, but it has been known to happen. Many children loathe learning for one reason or another, so using educational toys can make it fun and rewarding.

Keeping it up

There are educational toys for children of all ages, so it is good to always make sure there are fun educational toys around the house that are age or intelligence appropriate. And yes, there are some wonderful brain teasers and other educational games on video game systems and computers. When the child reaches a certain age, using these as learning tools can be great. There are also great television programs that make a child think and make learning fun. It is just a matter of placing restrictions on how much time is spent using these electronic tools and making sure there is plenty of time that you and your child are doing fun learning activities together. By taking a time out and doing these activities with your child, you are not only stimulating their brain, but you are actually stimulating your own. The two of you are also spending quality time together in a world that makes quality time very difficult. So it is easy to see how educational toys can benefit you and your child in more ways than just learning.

Mastermind Toys offers a wide range of children’s toys and children’s educational toys for kids of all ages.

Homeschooling - Is It a Good or Bad Thing?

Filed under: Children — johnmce @ 12:00 am

Up to 150,000 families in the UK have chosen to educate their children at home, a figure that has almost tripled since 1999. So why is homeschooling becoming so popular?

There are a number of reasons parents are deciding on educating their children at home.

Many parents are disillusion with state schools, some parents are concerned that our free education system is badly performing and their children and not challenged. When children are bored in lessons they will often start to misbehave and become disruptive.

If children are misbehaving in class this will not only affect their learning but also their class members too. If a teacher cannot control their class then time is often wasted and learning tasks not completed.

Kids with learning or behavioral problems can often disrupt classes simply because they don’t know how to learn in the same ways as most kids and can’t sit through a lesson. They are not only stopping their class from learning but they are not learning themselves, and often taking them out of a normal school atmosphere is beneficial for them and their classmates.

Unfortunately, bullying happens everywhere, both boys and girls falling victim to harassment. Although this is something that schools are very aware of and often do their best to rectify it can sometimes get to the point when a child just simply will not go to school for fear of his or her life. Homeschooling gives the child the chance to still get their education, but in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable to learn.

Other reasons for homeschooling include children living in remote locations, sick children and children cannot get to school for various reasons.

According to the first study into the benefits of home learning, primary-aged children who are taught at home actually learn more than those in schools.

Many people have concerns that children who are taught at home miss out on the social aspects of school, and will be less confident and more shy around other kids their age. However the study showed that children taught at home were actually found to be more confident than those taught at school. When children are taught at home, there is more emphasis put on learning life skills - such as communication, interpersonal skills, as well as self-esteem and responsibility - than in schools.

The study also showed that children do not need to socialise all the time to become well-adjusted adults. Home schooled children have good relationships with other children of all ages because they mix with them quite frequently and also they have good relationships with adults and are able to communicate with them well.

Just because a child is home schooled does not mean that they avoid interaction with other children, many parents who home school their children often find that getting together with other home schoolers can be greatly helpful for both parent and child. It is good for children to know that they are not alone in this way of education.

Is has often been said that the greatest example to your children will be the way you live your life. Involve your children is your everyday tasks, teach your children to ask questions. Encourage your children to read from an early age, begin reading to young children long before they can sit still, make it daily habit, a routine part of the day.

One of the negative aspects of homeschooling is that it is pretty hard work. When your child is at school it can give you time to yourself, to complete jobs, to have a job of your own. If a child is home schooled then you have them with you 7 days a week and this can often be quite draining. It can also be expensive, as you have to pay for educational materials and extracurricular activities. Also, one parent often has to give up their job to home school so families can often be faced with a loss of income. Children can find it hard to adapt to ‘normal’ school after being home schooled; many parents home school their kids through primary school and then they join a secondary school at 11.

Going to school teaches children routine and prepares them for going to work later in life. It is often said that not only do children find it difficult to adapt to going to school once they have been home schooled but they find it difficult to adapt to university and work.
Most children are extremely happy going to school 5 days a week, socialising with other children, working with their parents when they need help with their homework, talking to their family about their day at school over dinner and it is perhaps healthier for a child to mix with his piers rather than spending all the time with their parents. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to educate a child, all children are different and all children learn in their own way. It is up to the parent to work out what is best for them and how to help their child learn.

Worksheets are used frequently by schools and parents alike. A worksheet is a piece of paper, designed to help organize material for learning or clear understanding used by teachers to review what has been taught in class or used by parents to help their children learn. Worksheets are meant to provide extra skills practice using problems to solve, ‘fill in the blanks’, crosswords and puzzles to make learning more fun. They are organised by key stage and subject so it is easy to find something that will be at the right level for your child.

Many websites offer a wide range of downloadable worksheets to meet your child’s needs. EdPlace is one of these sites but offers something slightly different. Each worksheet can be refreshed upon completion to include new problems, a feature unique to EdPlace. And, members enjoy free feedback to all their questions from a trained teacher.

Who In The World Doesn’t Know a Webkinz?

Filed under: Children — KristiAmbrose @ 12:00 am

These soft and adorable little creatures have been around since 2005. Although it took me until May 2007 to finally meet my first ones. I was living in New York and it was actually an adult who owned several of these stuffed animals. She was a school teacher who came across the Webkinz when one of her pupils brought one to class. She quickly grew attached and raced to the nearest toy store to load up on this new craze. I remember she had the Clydesdale horse and my favorite, a Koala, that I could not resist hugging. She was anxiously awaiting the release of the Raccoon, which was being released in June 2007. I recall this grown, professional woman sounding like a child on Christmas morning as she described the value and fun of owning one of these Webkinz!

I personally didn’t get it but that doesn’t matter to the Gantz company who produces these stuffed animals and since there is no shortage of Webkinz fans out there. These days you can find almost every animal or creature made into a Webkinz. This month alone, August 2008, will be the release of many more including a silver-back Gorilla and a Skunk. Next month will include a Bat, a Chipmunk and many more. This Christmas season you can run out and buy a Snowman.. I personally think they should have come up with a Snow Lady to match!

You can go online to many sites to find which ones are available to purchase and which ones are “retired”. You can also find them in most card and gift shops or at some of your favorite local toy stores.

Now these are not just little stuffed animals that lie around and collect dust. Each one is equipped with a secret code and you go on their website and get access to the virtual Webkinz World. On this site you can play games or interact with your pet. They even have their own room that you can purchase furniture for and decorate to your little hearts content.

I have gone to several websites to learn more about the Webkinz and was amazed to find all the fun things that are associated with these cute little stuffed toys. One of the many cool things was making meals for your virtual pet. There are tons of recipes with funny names such as, “Sloppy Joekinz, Spinneretti or Monstrosoupy”. All the food products to make the recipes are purchased with the points you receive as you play games, etc. You can even buy appliances to assist you in preparing the recipes, such as: Stoves, grills, toasters, blenders and almost any that you would find in a real kitchen.

The Webkinz business is a huge and fun phenomenon but of course everything has its downside. I must unfortunately add that there are Webkinz poopers out there who think the whole idea is ridiculous and not a good idea for some Children. But I suppose with everything in this world only you know if buying one of these charming little pets and nurturing and playing with them is for you or not. But regardless, go check them out and enjoy.

This author is a huge fan of Webkinz

Sharing Books And Reading With Your Children

Filed under: Children — vgevge @ 12:00 am

Reading books to small children, especially at night, will ensure that they sleep peacefully. During the daytime, sharing and reading books to your children is an activity in which the child not only learns new words but also learns to relate it to real life. For example, after learning about a dog in the book, a child might utter the words “bow-wow”, the minute he or she sees a dog in real life.

So, not only are the children entertained while you read them a book, but the information within the book is also transferred into their tiny minds. You should start with picture books and slowly move on to storybooks. Ask your children questions about the characters to interact with them, instead of just reading to them. By reading to them aloud, the children will also grab the correct phonetics to pronounce words. Once the children get older, you can also have them read to you. This will give you an idea of their grasping power and whether they are using the correct expressions while narrating the story. You can also induce your little one to drink up that hot glass of milk as you tell him a bedtime story.

You can join your local library to ensure a regular stock of books at your house. You can take your children along and they can decide on which books they want to take home to read. They can also share these books among themselves or with other children. Most children love to watch cartoons, so instead of just banning the TV, regulate the timings they can watch with some time dedicated for book reading and playing. This will ensure that they do not end up as couch potatoes. You can also take your books along with your children when camping or going to the hairdressers or the doctor. Not only will the books keep them engrossed, it will also keep them calm in unfamiliar surroundings.

Later on in life, encourage your children to read good storybooks or novels. Children who start reading early in life have a tendency to carry on reading throughout their life, and the seeds of reading have to be sown by you into their minds. On their birthday, in addition to gifting them their favorite toy, you can also give them some books. You can also keep your interest in reading books alive by reading to them. This will encourage them to sit besides you with their favorite book.

You should, therefore, be a good role model and inspire your children to start reading at a young age. Reading to them when they are young will not only create a lasting warm bond between your children and you, but in later life will also enable them to be better informed adults.

Inspire The Imagination Of Your Children

Filed under: Children — teahupoo @ 12:00 am

Everyone knows that having everything in the world does not lead to happiness. There is something more than material things that is needed to make people happy. It’s imagination. Imagination can turn even the most mundane things into something to be celebrated, and is something that every parent should try and instill in their child at an early age.
There are many ways to do this, but one of the most important and easiest is to draw out your child’s creativity by asking them to fashion roles for themselves. How do you do that? Well, you could always suggest that they do what kids love to do anyway, such as play dress up!

Dressing up offers even more benefits than you might think. It promotes the activity of the brain, in requiring your children to think about who they want to be, what that person or thing wears, and how they can make a costume that is something like it. But it also requires a large amount of physical creativity as well. If, for instance, your child wants to be Shaq, he or she will not be sitting on the couch. They will be bounding around the house or yard, exercising healthily in mind and spirit.

Playing dress up also encourages empathy. By taking on the roles of other people and things, your child will have to think like those other people and things. This encourages them to think as if they were not the center of the universe, and promotes an ability that will greatly serve them later in life, the ability to see the world through other people’s eyes. What’s more, it will allow children to function a bit better than they might otherwise. By playing a teacher, your child might more properly understand what is required of them in a classroom, or how to better relate to adults.

The way that a child plays out roles during dress up can be invaluable for parents. A parent who pays keen attention to the way his or her child is acting out their dress up character can learn a great deal about how their child understands the world. If, for instance, to use the teacher example above, a child always enacts a teacher who is cruel and unfeeling, it might be the case that the child’s teachers are not all too kind to the child, and perhaps a parent’s intervention is necessary.

Dressing up also provides the necessity of innovation. Since children can become quickly tired of things that become too routine, it will be required of them to invent more and further ways of dress up. This will increase their creative ability and make them more innovative thinkers.

How To Correctly Install Your Car Seat

Filed under: Children — eleearticles @ 12:00 am

The first step is to become familiar with the locations of the airbags within your vehicle. All new automobiles are installed with driver and passenger air bags for the front seats. With the combination of seats belts, air bags are very effective in preventing major injury or even death from a car accident. However, air bags can be very dangerous to little children, especially those sitting in rear-facing car safety seats, and to children who are not properly positioned within their seat belt. If your automobile with active front passenger air bags, children riding in rear-facing car seats only should ride in the rear seat. Tests of shown that, ven in a relatively low-speed crash, an air bag can deploy, striking the car seat, and causing brain and neck injury or even death for the child.

Automobiles without a rear seat, are not the best choice for traveling with children in car seats. But some cars do have the option to deactivate the front passenger air bag, for the use of car seats in the front seat of the automobile. It’s highly recommend to review your vehicle owner’s manual for complete information.

Additionally, many new automobiles have side air bags for improved safely during a side-impact crash. If you automobile has side air bags, review both your vehicle owners manual and the car seat manual for instructions on proper car seat placement.

The second step is proper latching or attaching the car seat to the vehicle. Many vehicles have a LATCH system that eliminates the need to use seat belts to secure the car safety seat. Vehicles with a LATCH system have anchors located in the back seat. Car safety seats that come with LATCH have attachments that fasten to these anchors. Nearly all passenger vehicles and all car safety seats made on or after September 1, 2002, come with LATCH. However, unless both your vehicle and the car safety seat have this anchor system, you will still need to use seat belts to install the car safety seat.

If you have questions or need help installing your car safety seat, find a certified CPS Technician. A list of certified CPS Technicians is available by state or ZIP code on the NHTSA Web site. A list inspection stations where you can go to learn how to correctly install a car safety seat is available in English and Spanish at Seat Check’s Web Site.

It only takes a few minutes to properly install a car seat, and only a few second to safely buckle up your child. It’s a small effort to ensure your child is safe.
