World of Aikido Martial Arts

Do not fight force with force, this is the most basic principle of Aikido. Considered as one of the non-aggressive styles in martial arts, Aikido has become popular because it does not instigate or provoke any attack. Instead, the force of the attacker is redirected into throws, locks, and several restraining techniques.

Since aikido uses very few punches and kicks, the size, weight, age, and physical strength of the participants or the opponents only partake only a small role. What is important is the skilled Aikido practitioner is skilled enough to redirect his or her attackers energy while keeping him or her in a constant of unbalance.

The history of Aikido as a martial art can be traced when Morihei Ueshiba discovered and developed its principle of aikido. Known as (O Sensei) or the (Great Teacher), Ueshiba made sure to develop a martial art that is based on a purely physical level using movements like throws, joint locks and techniques derived from another martial arts like (Jujitsu)and (Kenjutsu).

Technically, aikido was stemmed out and developed mainly from (daito-ryu aiki-jujutsu) while incorporating several training movements similar to the (yari) or spear, (jo) or a short (quarterstaff) and from (juken) or (bayonet). Although these jujitsu movements are prominent while practicing the martial art, many practitioners agree that strongest influences of aikido is that of kenjutsu.

When he finally developed the minor and major principles of Aikido, Ueshiba emphasized that the martial art does not only pertain to self-defense techniques but can also play a major role in the enhancement of the practitioners moral and spiritual aspects eventually leading them to place greater weight on the development and achievement of peace and harmony. In fact, because of the great emphasis in the development of harmony and peace, seasoned aikido practitioners say that (the way of harmony of the spirit) is one phrase that could describe or translate the term (aikido) in English.

Just like any other martial art, aikido has various techniques that include ikkyo or the (first technique), (nikyo) or the (second technique), (sankyo), or the (third technique), (yonkyo) or the (fourth technique), the (gokyo) or the (fifth technique), the (shihonage) or the (four-direction throw), the (kotegaeshi) or the wrist return, (kokyunage) or the (breath throw), (iriminage) or the entering-body throw, (tenchinage) or the (heaven-and-earth throw), (koshinage), or the (hip throw), (jujinage) or the (shaped-like-(ten)-throw), and the (kaitennage) or the rotation throw.

Although aikido is not about punching or kicking the opponent, it is not considered as a static art. It is still a very effective means of martial arts because it requires the aikido practitioner to use the energy of their opponent so they can gain control over them. When you will look at the martial art closely, you will realize that aikido is not only a means of self-defense technique but can also serve a means of spiritual enlightenment, physical health or exercise or a simple means of attaining peace of mind, concentration, and serenity.

Although different aikido styles gives great emphasis on the spiritual aspects to varying levels some to greater or lesser degrees, the idea that the martial arts was conceptualized in order to achieve peace and harmony remains the most basic ideology of the martial art.

Tips For Effective Planning Of A Golf Tournament

Filed under: Golf — amitkheterpal @ 12:00 am

Golf tournaments provide opportunity for your club to get that desired recognition as well allow you to make a mark in the golf tournament scene. In addition, if you have a sponsor then that sponsor definitely benefits from the golf tournament by getting brand name recognition.

For planning that golf tournament you need to start planning well in advance and have a set of guidelines that will help you organize the tournament.

When you conceptualize the idea of a golf tournament then you need to make sure first of all that whether this event is going be an annual event or this is a one off event. That is important as that can mean a vast difference in terms of planning as well as corporate sponsorship.

Once that is decided you need to then start thinking about a venue for the tournament. That tournament can be had on a golf course which your club owns but if you are planning to host big names then you need to look out for a good venue. You need to decide that fast as that can be very challenging with a lot of competing tournaments trying for a good destination.

Next major thing is your sponsor for without those finances would be a tough thing to get. If you are organizing a tournament on behalf of a club then you can you need to get some sponsorship from the golf equipment manufactures such as golf ball manufactures or golf umbrella manufacturers. Then you can also try to get other sponsorships such as the gifts or the keepsakes for every player.

For effective planning and organizing you can do two things out of which one is an expensive approach and that approach is that you can outsource all these tasks to an event planning company. That company can actually take care of all the tasks with definitely project management oversight from you. The other way is to do all the tasks yourself which can be very challenging but it can be in your control.

For doing all the things yourself you will definitely need help from all the quarters you can get including having one or two assistants for administrative tasks. This is important especially when you interact with corporates for sponsorships or when you are writing invitation letters to golf players to participate.

The major thing to consider is the dates of the tournament which can likely impact the participation of players. To get maximum mileage you will need to have the press cover the event. Make sure that you call upon a big personality or a top government official as the guest of honor on the inaugural day well as the final day. That will definitely get you maximum press coverage.

There are other planning things that you need to take care of like the tournament format and the tournament coordinator. Then you need to plan for the stay of players as well as the transportation arrangement for the players.

For all the activities to be remembered is tough thing so make a checklist of all the activities with dates marked against each so that you are able to effectively mange and track all the things.

The author suggests having special golf tournament gifts from sponsors. These golf tournament gifts help give required brand awareness for the corporate sponsor.

A History Of Ski Holidays In Meribel

Filed under: Sports — Galway @ 12:00 am

Meribel is situated in eastern France, in the Allues region of the Alps close to the Swiss border. The name Meribel is derived from the Roman name Mira Bellum, meaning beautiful view and this opinion was shared by the founder of the resort, the Englishman Peter Lindsay. He stumbled on the land in 1938 as he migrated south from Austria after the annexation by Hitler.

This was technically the first of many ski holidays in Meribel. Previous to this it did not have such a rich history as some other resorts in the region did. Many other resorts had their foundations in the mid to late eighteenth century and had celebrity endorsements from the outset. Ski holidays in Meribel did not truly take off until after the second World War.

Ski holidays in Meribel originally were just located around the one valley village, which was a community of farmers. Many of the inhabitants of the village gladly gave up their land to develop the resort and it began immediately in 1938 with the construction of the first fixed rope sled. This was followed shortly in 1939 by the construction of the first hotel and chalets.

As with many things, the sudden outbreak and severity of the war halted progress of Meribel however it was picked up again in 1945. The authenticity of the village resort was the primary concern and much of the raw materials that were used in the construction were locally harvested, a feature that has remained constant to this day.

In the post war period 1946 to 1954 rapid construction took place. 17 hotels, 40 chalets and 4 lifts were constructed and ski holidays in Meribel started to become increasingly popular. This was put down to the foresight of the planning, the natural beauty of Meribel and the way the resort had maintained the village community feel.

The increasing popularity of ski holidays in Meribel was also put down to the opening of a cable car linking Meribel to Courchevel, called the Burgin Saulire telebenne. This was the neighbouring valley and the community spread even further ten years later with the linking of Meribel to Tougnete, which linked the three valleys together.

Ski holidays in Meribel continued to grow in popularity until 1972 when a satellite resort was opened to cope with the growing demand. This resort named Mottaret was built in a similar style to Meribel however people can ski to and from their front doors. There is a tangible sense of community in the resorts that has been maintained throughout the decades.

During the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympic Games, Meribel hosted 52 of the 122 events. Ski holidays in Meribel improved dramatically due to the massive investment made in facilities such as the hockey stadium, which is now open for general use. There are over 40, 000 beds in the three valley resort and it remains some of the best skiing in the world.

How To Buy The Right Golf Balls

Filed under: Golf — aaausedgolfballs @ 12:00 am

Believe it or not, the golf balls you use can really have an affect on your game. Ever had a horrible day on the range? Or an unusually good day where you made every shot with ease? It could have something to do with the golf balls you choose.

Many golfers are playing with the wrong golf balls and they don’t know it. There are so many different balls available to choose from. One manufacturer can develop several different types of balls for different playing levels and budgets. You need to know how to buy the right golf ball to improve your game. It’s not enough to automatically choose the same golf balls as your favorite golfer. Most manufactures separate their balls into two categories: two piece and multi layer golf balls.

Two piece golf balls

A two piece golf ball is designed to be a distance traveling ball. It is made up of the core and a single cover.

They allow you to achieve maximum distance regardless of how fast you swing. Two piece balls usually perform like low spinning golf balls, and give you less sidespin when hit off center. They are cheaper to buy than multi layer balls since they use less material to make.

Multi layer balls

Multi layer golf balls are “three piece” or “four piece” balls consisting of a core, a second layer known as a mantle and a cover. These balls are a bit softer than two layer balls. This gives them a higher spin rate. The multiple layers that make up these golf balls transfers energy from the swing to give you greater distance. These balls perform well according to how they “feel” to an individual golfer. Since they can be more expensive, the best way to find out which balls perform the best is to try using a few different recycled multi layer balls first. This can save you the expense of buying a dozen balls that just aren’t right.

What type of player are you?

When you are looking for the right golf balls to help your game, you need to know what type of player you are, and the type of player you hope to become. For example, if you are a high handicap player who just wants to achieve more distance, a simple two piece ball will do the trick. If you want more back spin around the green to help you with your shots, a multi layer ball will work much better.

Finding just the right ball

Golf balls are more complex than many might imagine. Ball compression and the dimple count on your ball can affect the travel distance and spin. Again, the best way to find the best balls to enhance your performance is to try out a few different varieties first. Check with sporting goods stores to find out if you can purchase individual sleeves of golf balls instead of buying them by the dozen to save money.

Do You Want to Participate In Amateur Formula Drifting?

Filed under: Sports — rdokoye @ 12:00 am

Formula D drifting is a popular sport. In fact, for being relatively new to the United States, on a professional level, the sport has a pretty good fan following. In addition to cheering on their favourite drifters, there are many fans who want more. Some of those fans want to become professional drifters, themselves. Are you one of those individuals? If so, there are a number of factors that you should first examine. These factors will not only help to ensure that you have a fun time while drifting, but that you also have a safe time.

Perhaps, the most important thing to consider is that not everyone makes it to professional drifting. Formula D Racing is like a wide variety of other sports. A lot of individuals want to participate in it, but, unfortunately, there are only a limited number of opportunities. While there is a chance that you may be able to make it in professional drifting, the chances are slim. However, this does not mean that you have to give up on your drifting dream. Instead, it means that you need to find alternatives. For instance, one of those alternatives is drifting at an amateur level.

When it comes to amateur drifting, you will find that you have a number of different options. An amateur is often a way to describe someone who participates in an activity at a recreational level, instead of doing so for income. Essentially, this means that you may be drifting in your time, but you can also do so at local tracks. There are a number of tracks in the United States, as well as other venues, that host amateur drifting events. These events typically involve everyday individuals, just like you. While you and the other drivers may not be professional drifters, you do have a love for the sport. The only problem with this is that there are only a limited number of locations in the United States that sponsor these types of events.

As previously mentioned, you could participate in drifting on your own. In a way, this is considered an underground activity. Since drifting, along with many other motor sport activities, is considered illegal on city streets, you need to proceed with caution. Not only is this type of drifting considered illegal, but it is also considered dangerous. If at all possible, you are advised to avoid this type of competition. It may be a safer this way, not to mention a better experience, especially if you are a beginner. In fact, if you are a beginner, it may be a good idea to take a drifting training course before you proceed any further.

Drifting training courses are offered in select areas, all across the United States. You will find that many of these training courses are located in California, where underground drifting first got its start. Training courses are offered for both men and women, anyone who has a love for the sport. By performing a standard internet search, you should be able to determine whether or not any of these training courses are offered in your area. If they are offered, you are advised to take one. After completion, you will find that you know more about the sport of drifting, often more than you ever could have imagined.

In addition to performing a standard internet search, to find a drifting training course, you are also advised to use that same type of search to look for local drifting venues or amateur organizations. While they may not exist in your area, they are the best way to prepare for your next drifting experience, whether that experience remains on the amateur level or you graduate to the professional level.

Golf Clubs: How Should I Select Them?

Filed under: Golf — dasleben @ 12:00 am

If you’re looking to improve your handicap, look no further than a good set of golf clubs. An excellent set of clubs, personalized to your needs, will take strokes off of your game faster than you could ever imagine. The trouble is, many of you have probably noticed that many new and “breakthrough” products have come onto the market lately to cash in on the idea that people want to constantly improve their golf games. While many of these products may be worthwhile, many are simply snake oil products that are designed to get you excited about a set of golf clubs that really isn’t any more revolutionary than the set next to it that is half the price. Shop carefully for your clubs.

Before you start going out buying new golf club sets and other products, ensure that you’re playing at a level of play that would get you some benefit out of the new club. If you lack in the basic concepts of a golf swing, perhaps your money should be better spent taking golf lessons instead of in the pro shop drooling over the latest and greatest gadgets. Also ensure that when you’re exercising, exercise muscles that will strengthen your game and improve your swing.

So, what golf clubs are going to be necessary for you to actually purchase? Let’s keep it simple: you’re going to need a driver, a 3 wood, a 5 wood, and a god set of irons including a putter. In the rules of golf you’re not supposed to have more than 14 clubs in your golf bag, however when you’re first starting out feel free to have as many clubs as you want and simply experiment with what works for you. Again, this comes down the idea of not bogging yourself down with specifics when you should be simply trying to improve your golf game one step at a time.

For example: One of your best golf clubs is going to be the venerable 3 wood. This club is going to be the basis for most of the rest of your golf bag, so choose this wisely. This does not mean that you should go out and simply buy the first club you see, or conversely, the most expensive club you see. Your 3 wood should be chosen only after you spend time trying out different types of woods that fit your needs. Then, and only then, can you really feel confident about buying that particular club. While I use the example of a 3 wood, you should use this guide to help you select any club in your bag, including your putter. Don’t forget about just how important your putter is in your game.

The Types of Paintball Tanks and Their Differences

Paintball which originated back in 1976, has had a steady increase in popularity. The primary strategy behind paintball is to shoot your opponent with a ball of paint that is traveling at excessively high speeds, hence “killing” him and bringing your team one step closer to another victory.

The rate of acceleration that a person’s paintball travels is a very critical factor for this type of sport, as the slower moving paintballs can be dodged more easily by your opponents. There are basically two types of propellant tanks that are used; High Pressure Air / Carbon Dioxide or Nitrogen.

Type 1 - Carbon Dioxide Paintball Tanks

Carbon dioxide tanks utilize what is known as a liquid CO2 which then expands itself into a gas which then takes the paintball and propels it out the barrel. One of the side effects of using a carbon dioxide tank for extended periods of time is that crystals of ice can form on the tank itself. The primary cause of this is because the liquid CO2 expansion turning from a liquid to a gas requires heat energy, eventually this can result in the counter effect of the propellant tank becoming very cold. Combine this with long periods of use and you get the creation of ice.

When these carbon dioxide paintball tanks are used in a rapid fashion they can become unreliable for both distance and accuracy. This is mainly because the carbon dioxide requires time to expand out to a form that is gaseous and when your trigger pulls are too rapid the inner pressure might not form fully.

Tanks such as these can also have the tendency to leak because of erosion of the seals and o-rings, yet with some maintenance and care this typically can be prevented. Carbon dioxide paintball tanks should not be directly left in the rays of the sun for too long as there is some risk of the internal gas expanding to a level that would be unsafe.

Type 2 - High Pressure Air and Nitrogen Paintball Tanks

Nitrogen tanks and high pressure air function in a different manner compared to carbon dioxide tanks since they don’t have to expand a liquid into a gas to result in the propellant effect; this is because the material is already formed in a gaseous state. Because of this process it augments both of the distance and accuracy over carbon dioxide paintball tank. These type of tanks will have a tendency to grow colder when used, nevertheless the overall effect is much less compared to carbon dioxide tanks.

Even though they are generally preferred over carbon dioxide paintball tanks, the nitrogen and high pressure types of air tanks do have some disadvantages. The weight of nitrogen and high pressure tanks are higher and they are also larger compared to CO2 tanks, since the propellant is already in a form that is gaseous. There are smaller tanks that are produced but will typically not have enough gas to last out a long game. Nitrogen and high pressure paintball tank also are more expensive to buy, yet refilling them is much less costly then having to refill tanks

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Vertical Leap

Filed under: Basketball — alanlargo @ 12:00 am

Do you feel like you are stuck to the ground? Have you ever dreamed of dunking on someone or blocking the shot of the tallest guy on the other team?

All these dreams are possible and they all involve vertical jumping ability. If you can increase your vertical jump, you will be able to accomplish athletic feats you only dreamed of, like spiking a volleyball and dunking a basketball.

Believe it or not, with extra explosive power that comes with an increased vertical, you will even run and accelerate faster! So the question is, how can you increase your vertical and what exactly does it take to get consistent results?

There are a few major factors at work during a vertical jump. Once you understand what it takes to leave the ground behind you, you will know which training regimens will be the most effective. It has been found that the height of a vertical jump is directly related to the acceleration of the center of gravity when the feet are last touching the ground.

In other words, the faster your body is moving upward when your feet leave the ground, the higher your vertical jump. What does it take to increase the speed of your center of gravity? There are a few major factors involved including relative strength and reactive strength.

Relative strength is your personal strength-to-weight ratio. Who do you think will jump higher, a power-lifter who weighs in at 300 lbs and can squat 800 pounds, or an Olympic lifter who weights in at 150 lbs but can squat 450 lbs? If you guessed the Olympic lifter, you are right! But why is this true?

It is true because the Olympic lifter can squat three times his bodyweight. Although the power lifter can squat almost twice as much as the Olympic lifter, when the power lifter wants to jump he has to propel all 300 lbs of his body upward. The power lifter is built like a rhino and while super strong, we all know a grasshopper jumps much higher than a rhino.

It is all about strength-to-weight ratio, or relative strength. So how do you increase it? You increase it by either losing weight or becoming stronger. You can rapidly increase your relative strength through dead lifts and squats.

The next piece of the huge vertical puzzle is called reactive strength, or Plyometric ability. Have you ever seen those guys who are as skinny as twigs but can practically head butt the rim?

They have an attribute called plyometric ability, or reactive strength. Those guys rely on the elasticity of their tendons to store energy from a run up and direct that energy into the ground rapidly on their last step, propelling their body upward!

You can increase this aspect of athletic ability by a type of training exercise that is called plyometric training. Plyometric training exercises are exercises meant to increase your bodys ability to store and release energy more effectively.

If you have both of these aspects of strength, the only aspect left that could help you increase your vertical is called speed strength, or the rate at which your body develops force.

This is a byproduct of Olympic lifting. Once you have all three of these aspects, all you need is some mobility and you will be flying high in no time!

Chi: A Martial Arts Technique Of Masters

Filed under: Martial Arts — alanlargo @ 12:00 am

Chi, you may have heard of it before; Tai Chi or Chi Qigong. It is termed as the life force; the energy that surrounds us, flows through us and can be used by us provided we know how to harness it. Many people believe that the energy used in martial arts comes from the body. This is not entirely accurate.

Of course the energy is the same whether it is in a tree, in the grass, or in a person. Even unloving objects have some sort of energy to them. They carry with them the energy of the person who made them and also the energy of the materials they were made from. Even the process used can leave its traces!

It is this energy that allows martial arts masters to push their bodies to incredible limits, to do something that is seemingly impossible to do. You probably have seen it on TV where a small man can take down a huge person, or shatters a vase or object without touching it. These are both applications of Chi.

It is not taught in most western applications, even in martial arts. There is a level of belief and awareness of the older ideals of a spiritual world that are necessary to fully utilize it and realize that it is there. There are many who simply do not have this awareness. It is something that children have, but unless it is trained it is eventually lost as one enters adulthood.

Still however, it is a fundamental aspect of martial arts. It lends strength and it can help to minimize damage and even promote faster healing. The first thing to be aware of is that it is not something that will come to you because you read a book or took a single course!

It takes years of patience, practice and skill. Most Chi masters or martial artists who have gained mastery of this are highly skilled and have been training the majority of their life.

You may however, know some of the basics. You may be aware that energy is there and available to you; coming straight from your senses. They are primarily senses that can be developed through meditation and meditative practices. In order to fully utilize the Chi energy effectively, you must be calm inside and focused.

Once you have gained the awareness of the energy and can feel it in and around you, you must learn how to control and master its flow. In order to use Chi energy in martial arts, it has to be able to flow properly through the body.

This means that you must be aware of when energy becomes clogged or does not flow correctly and be able to make the adjustments necessary to keep a free flow of energy. The energy of the actual body is limited and while you can use it, it will become exhausted.

As this can be dangerous, it is also necessary to learn to use your bodys Chi to channel, focus and draw upon the energy that surrounds you. Once you have learned this step, then you must train in the actual controlling of the flow of this energy, using it directly as needed.
